101 Reasons Why Apologies Are Useless in Generation Z
Towards the start of this semester an idea was birthed in my mind. It was more or less a problem and like most problems in my world of reason, I almost always want to fix them. Well, all except for drama with my exes. When it comes to this, I fully participate in generating perpetually unending drama. And by the way, I ain’t sorry about that. Speaking of which, let’s get into that; the concept of apologies.
Attacking the problem
I set out to find answers about this from a few people close to my heart. Apologizing according to the Oxford dictionary is ‘saying that you’re sorry for doing something wrong or causing a problem.’ Being sorry on the other hand is ‘feeling disappointed about something and wishing you had done something different or had not done something’. Again, this is according to the same authority.

Some people, most of my early friends in campus, consider apologies very important. They felt that it’s a necessary preliminary step before anything else could be said or done. But for a long time, I kept wondering whether apologies really fix anything. A section of the people I spoke to did not regard apologies as really important. To them, apologies that people make are empty and not genuine. They prefer a change in behavior rather than the mere utterance of empty words and a reassurance to change.

So, where do we stand?
In the current state of affairs, I am inclined to agree with them. Consider this, In the last two months how many times did you apologize because you genuinely felt you had made a wrong judgement call and done something you shouldn’t have? Or did you just throw in the ‘sorry’ word to put out the brewing drama? Some have labeled it trust issues, but let’s be real. If you have made fake apologies; apologies you didn’t really mean, how sure are you that everyone else ain’t doing that?
And my rhetoric remains
So, again I am curious, are you still sorry?
